Lying and Truth

Well, in my opinion it depends heavily on what the topic of conversation is. Say someone asks you if you are their friend when you don't really like them, and neither does anybody else. For me, that is an instance where you lie and say yes, because if you say no, it could lead that person down the wrong path. I always tell the person what they want to hear if they ask something that could have consequences if I say no. But if someone asks you something that does not have consequences you should tell them the truth. I guess you could say that I tell people what they want to hear when the conversation is serious, but other than that I just tell them what I think.

  1. Interesting. I think I go the other way, most of the time -- I tell people what they want to hear when it doesn't actually matter, and the truth when it does.

If someone asked me if I was a friend when I wasn't, I would definitely tell the truth. Though I might then be willing to spend some time with the poor loser to find out if we could be friends. But then, I get an easy excuse with that question most of the time, because I am only ever asked that by students, and the answer is: no. We're not friends. And we won't be any time soon. And that's the TRIPLE truth, Ruth.

  2. HA, Will, the funny thing is you actually do that to people and it's really quite funny but a little bit sad.

  3. if your afraid about someone getting the wrong idea from the truth then explain it more fully so that they dont get confused, don't lie to them.
